Best season
December to February is the most comfortable period, with cooler mornings and evenings. October to December can bring rain from the northeast monsoon, so carry an umbrella. March to June is hot, so plan early morning darshan and carry water.
Best day of the week
Weekdays are usually calmer. Saturday, Sunday and Monday see larger crowds, and darshan on those days runs half an hour later in the evening.
Best time of day
Early morning, soon after the temple opens, usually means shorter queues. To attend the Rahu Ketu Pooja during Rahu Kalam, check the Panchang page for that day's time and arrive well before it begins.
Festival days
Maha Shivaratri and its Brahmotsavam are the most crowded days of the year. Expect long queues, book accommodation early and check the temple announcements for revised timings.
